Pharmacy Technician - IV - Closed Door

SMS is currently hiring for several pharmacy technician roles in the Farmington, CT area for home infusion positions.  

The Pharmacy Technician plays a crucial role in ensuring the safe and timely delivery of medications to patients who require specialized care at home. They work closely with pharmacists and other healthcare professionals to prepare and dispense medications for patients receiving home infusion therapy.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Medication Preparation:
    • Prepare and dispense medications according to physician orders and pharmacy protocols.
    • Ensure accuracy in calculating dosages and mixing medications.
    • Package medications for safe and convenient delivery to patients.
  • Inventory Management:
    • Maintain accurate records of medication inventory.
    • Order and receive medications as needed.
    • Ensure proper storage and handling of medications.
  • Patient Care:
    • Assist with patient education regarding medication administration and usage.
    • Respond to patient inquiries and concerns in a professional and timely manner.
    • Coordinate with healthcare providers to ensure continuity of care.
  • Documentation:
    • Maintain detailed documentation of all medication dispensing activities.
    • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and pharmacy standards.
  • Equipment Handling:
    • Properly handle and maintain infusion pumps and other specialized equipment.
    • Clean and sterilize equipment as needed.
  • Quality Control:
    • Implement quality control measures to prevent medication errors.
    • Monitor the expiration dates of medications.
    • Ensure compliance with safety standards.

Qualifications:

  • Conneticut Pharmacy Technician Certification
  • Experience in a pharmacy setting, preferably with home infusion experience.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team. 

Skills:

  • Proficiency in using pharmacy software and technology.
  • Knowledge of medication therapy and administration.
  • Understanding of regulatory requirements and pharmacy standards.
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize tasks effectively.

Work Environment:

  • Pharmacy setting, including cleanroom and storage areas.
  • May involve some patient interaction and travel.
